Sorry so quiet everyone. The AE Films crew were reminded that the same mother nature that allows us to make movies in the first place can also make it pretty hard. Unstable snowpack in many of our planned filming locations coupled with other logistics issues didn't allow us enough time to gather needed footage for a movie to release this fall. We'll still be editing much of what did complete through this summer, but we were short a few key days to complete the remaining segments. The bottom line is we might have been able to cobble something together, but we'd rather wait and take a step forward with better product than "mail one in". We're very proud of the new movie, segments and story, and want to present them in the best light possible.

That being said, we will have some new production stills from filming this past season on the site soon to give you an idea where we're heading. In the meantime, we hope you're weathering the heat as best as possible. A few of us are still finding high patches of snow to keep skiing on the mind during these torturous months.

Just remember...tomorrow will be shorter than today.

Hey everyone.

A very mixed winter has come and gone, but our hefty consolation prize of spring is upon us. Filming has been a challenge this season with local snowpacks being somewhere between under to barely average as well as persistent weak layers in the back country. We have a few segments to go, but it’s fair to say that schedule has compressed to the right. That being said we’ve had some really great momentum these past few weeks with a return trip to Wolf Creek, a shoot at Echo Mountain as well as good backcountry courtesy of some recent late winter/early spring storms. We hope for a couple more good dumps, but have our sights set on steeper lines strengthening up here in the coming weeks. Time to get the lung burn on heaving camera gear up higher and higher peaks.

We still have last season’s movie Gravity Assist for sale on the store page, pick up your copy and we’ll throw a couple AE Films stickers in there for ya.

Make sure to head over to the store page and pick up your copy on DVD, or come grab one at one of the upcoming premieres! Tick-tock until winter....

Hey everyone.

You digging how fall basically got skipped here in Colorado?

We wanted to give a huge thanks for everyone who showed up to our first three showings. World premiere night at Bacaro in Boulder was a huge success, despite the logistical and technical difficulties we ended up rolling the movie just a few minutes late to a packed rooftop. Huge thanks to the hometown crowd! Special thanks to DJ Vanish for the excellent warmup (check out the link to his site on the DVD page!), and the staff at Bacaro for having us. Also thanks to the Friends of Berthoud Pass crew for co-hosting the evening.

This past weekend Steve and Keith headed south to Pagosa Springs and Salida for two more showings. The drive was fantastic, as it was easy to see how much the high country is getting socked this early. Pagosa also had some venue difficulties but we managed to turn it into a rowdy night regardless and made some new friends. Learning a hard, hard lesson we stopped by Wolf Creek on the way out the next day to visit the folks there. Owner Davey Pitcher offered to turn on a lift for us to get a pre-opening day run...and our freaking skis & gear were back in Denver. Never. Again. We rolled into Salida that evening, and Pete Volkman and the crew at Benson's rolled out the red carpet. Dan drove down from Denver to meet us too, which was cool. They projected on the large outside wall and inside as well to a very respectable first time crowd for us. We got a lot of positive feedback...and drinks courtesy of our awesome hosts. We tried to return the favor to the crowd and gave away one of Steve's trademark "cutting edge straight ski technology" shot skis to a lucky attendee. Definitely looking forward to coming back to Benson's again.

Just a final snow report, both Wolf Creek and Monarch pass are looking pretty healthy for this time of year. That was pretty much the case for all the high passes we drove over, so if you haven't already gotten turns in it's only a matter of days before you can....or you're not trying hard enough!

We just confirmed a return visit showing in Golden at Bent Gate Mountaineering on Dec 9th, so stay tuned for details on that one. There's also rumblings of a small winter film fest sponsored by FOBP in December as well. As soon as that confirms we'll let you know.

Finally, Gravity Assist is now for sale on DVD on the website via PayPal! Head on over and pick up a copy for only $10 plus shipping, and get an extra for a friend.

Get yer damn skis out....it's time.

Great news! We are proud to announce the world premiere of Gravity Assist will be Saturday Oct 17th at Bacaro Tavern in Boulder CO...on the rooftop bar. Come by anytime after 8PM, show starts at 9PM! Additionally, we will be heading to Pagosa Springs CO (Bear Creek Saloon) on Oct 23rd, and Salida CO (Benson's) on Oct 24th for two more showings. We're working on confirming a couple more here shortly, stay tuned! DVDs will be back from the factory soon and available at all showings, and via the website soon as well.

The fall colors are changing, and the first snows have fallen in the hills. We're only a few short weeks away from the WROD in Colorado. Hope it's getting cold where you are, and you're ready for the next winter of your life! See you at the premieres!

Head over to the video section of the site...we have just posted the trailer for this year's movie. We're currently working on the premiere date and a few mountain town showings as well. You'll be the first to know as soon as these are confirmed!

The middle of summer has us jonesing for snow pretty bad, but the wait isn't that long until the lifts spin again. Time to think about scraping off the summer storage wax from your sticks and getting those quads in shape. El Nino is rumored to be winding up for decimation too, keep your tips crossed!

7.20.09

Skiing footage has been completed! Weather turned out to be the biggest factor this season with several days having to be rescheduled due to poor light, bad weather or unsafe conditions. But the slog is done and the crew filmed the last few backcountry lines a couple weeks back. With that, we are descending now into the AE editing cave for the summer to put this film together and test our livers in the process, courtesy of the mini-fridge down there. We'll have a teaser up for you very soon, followed by a trailer a bit later on. With that, we'd like to announce the title of this year's film:

Gravity Assist

Stay tuned for more details throughout the the coming months. And yes, with the oncoming summer heat only weeks away....we're already thinking about winter. Slom!

Welcome to our new website! Watch for content popping up as we go, including more video clips, stills and more. Thanks to Nick Jackson at Black Orion Design for the revamp.

Well, with an atypical round of April storms the backcountry season looks to have extended a bit and snow totals look to be back on track. With only a few more weeks to go of filming we look forward to some of the more adventurous lines. They definitely take a bit more effort as we're purely self powered as a film crew at the moment, but the rewards promise to be great. We'll give some more updates as we go. We recently were skunked by one of these storms last weekend on a shoot, the light simply got too bad very quickly. But it was great beta, and we already plan on returning with certain lines in mind. Still no such thing as a bad day out.

While you're here, pay a quick visit to some of our sponsors linked below, and tell 'em we sent ya.

We also have a working title which we hope to confirm for this year's movie. Until then, make sure you kill some of these awesome late season conditions, there are only so many weeks left. See you on the hill.

3.16.09

We have two film crews heading off to Monarch Pass and Wolf Creek. Several Assassins will be captured in all their glory (and hopefully debauchery) between both locations. Winter roars strong, keep your fingers crossed for high snow totals and safe avy conditions. We'd also like to extend a big welcome our newest sponsors Millet/Lafuma International as well as Alpenglow Ski & Paddle Sports out of Golden, Colorado.

See you in the hills.
